There's no universal answer. A daily-driven truck in Sparta has different needs than a garaged convertible that comes out in May. Here's how we actually advise our regular customers.
If you have ceramic coating
- Maintenance washes: every 2–3 weeks (you can do these yourself)
- Professional decontamination wash: 1–2x per year
- Coating inspection and toppers: annually
- Full interior detail: as needed, typically 1x per year
If you have a ceramic sealant or wax
- Maintenance washes: every 2 weeks
- Re-apply sealant or wax: every 4–6 months
- Full exterior detail: 2x per year (spring and fall)
- Interior detail: 1x per year minimum
If you have no protection
- Maintenance washes: weekly
- Full exterior detail: 3–4x per year
- Decontamination + sealant: 2x per year minimum
- Interior detail: 2x per year
The two appointments that matter most
Spring detail (March–April)
After Wisconsin winter, your vehicle has accumulated salt residue, brine etching, magnesium chloride film, road grime, and bonded contaminants from six months of plow trucks. A spring decontamination wash + interior detail resets the vehicle and prevents the corrosion that catches up in year 5–7.
Fall coating refresh (September–October)
Right before salt season starts. We strip the summer's bonded contaminants, polish out water spots from rain, and either re-seal the paint or top off your existing ceramic coating with a maintenance product. This is the appointment that decides how easy the next winter will be on your vehicle.
Interior detailing cadence
Interiors are different. They're driven by lifestyle, not climate. Kids, pets, work boots, food in the car, and smoking all push the cadence shorter. A clean-living office commuter in Tomah might only need an annual interior detail; a contractor's work truck in Sparta could justify quarterly.
What you can do between visits
- Touchless washes (no brushes) every 2–3 weeks in winter — undercarriage spray included
- Quick-detailer spray + clean microfiber for bird droppings (remove ASAP)
- Vacuum the interior monthly
- Wipe down dash and console with an interior cleaner — UV degrades plastics fast
Set up a recurring spring/fall slot — we'll hold the date for you each year.
Quick answers.
Can detailing too often hurt my paint?
Frequent washing with proper technique is fine. Frequent paint correction is not — every correction removes microns of clear coat. That's why we typically recommend protection between corrections rather than redoing them every year.
Should I detail my car before selling it?
Almost always — the return on a $200–$400 detail is typically several times that in sale price. We see this regularly with private-party sales in the La Crosse / Tomah area.
Do you offer membership or maintenance plans?
We don't push subscriptions, but we're happy to schedule recurring spring and fall slots so the appointment is on the calendar before the season hits.
